It's time to celebrate the 20 years anniversary of Divagation, the first CD album of Cyborg Jeff.
You should go back to year 1997 ! That years received an incredible influence of big sounds coming from Faithless, Sash!, DJ MD or B.B.E. and for sure this album pick up a lot of mood from that DJs.
I had just 19 years old and in april my best friend Vivien had just received a brand new CD writer for his computer. (Wooow). At that time burning his own CD was something completly new and incredible ! Anyway the 20 selected songs in WAV can't fit inside a 650mo hard drive, that mean i should have only kept 15 tracks for this first album !
Just remember at that time, i'm creating soundtracker music with Impulse Tracker running under MS-DOS, a software coming from the Amiga scene. Compare to MAO solution from that period, this software will not just only record the note but include samples from the instrument, that mean the .IT file format will be render exactly the same on each compure and will not be dependent from a MIDI Keyboard soundbank.
Anyway, we can't compare the quality of this album with big DJ productions. It was composed with our brand new Pentium 120mhz with a big 8mo memory. Anyway the computer will not able to manage such kind of memory in MS-DOS, and our audio card will not support Stereo output.
So if this original album was not using Stereo effect, this anniversary version will include all tracks with some stereo enhancement and polish mastering adjustement.
Divagation is not just and only a technical story, but also stories about teenage time with all my friends, girls and school time...

Retour en 1997, ou je venais donc de
passer depuis peu le cap de mes 19 ans… Une année particulièrement marquée par les sons incroyables de Faithless, Sash!, DJ MD ou BBE qui auront une grande influence dans les différentes compositions que vous retrouverez dans cet album.
Nous sommes au moi d’avril et mon meilleur ami et voisin, Vivien venait d’équiper son PC d’un graveur de CD ! (Waaoww).. si si, pour l’époque un graveur de CD, ce n’était pas commun et j’allais donc pouvoir créer mon premier album CD !! Pour vous rafraichir la mémoire, à l’époque je composais depuis 2 ans en « mode tracker » sous Impulse Tracker, logiciel de musique sous DOS, issu du monde Amiga.
Le concept est assez puissant pour l’époque, puisque à l’inverse de la plupart des logiciels de M.A.O., le programme ne mémorise pas uniquement la partition jouée, qui comme en midi, sera rejouée de manière différente sur chaque synthétiseur, mais contient également les samples (échantillons) personnalisés qui serviront à créer les instruments.
Ne vous attendez pas à un album hyper perfectionner donc, je suis alors équipé d'un Pentium 120 mhz avec 8mo de mémoire.. chaque morceaux, est donc enregistré par la sortie son de mon PC vers l’entrée son du PC de Vivien… hors les disques dures de l’époque font rarement plus 600mo.. en enlevant une grosse 50aine de méga pour Windows 95.. il n’y a pas de quoi graver un CD entièrement.. il faut donc limiter l’album à 15 pistes. (+1 bonus dans la S.E. de 2002).
Si l'album original ne comptera que 15 titres en MONO, le nouvel album restore tous ceux-ci en stéréo et inclus également 10 titres qui avaient dû être abandonnés ou améliorés par la suite...
Néanmoins, Divagation n'est pas juste une histoire de technologie musicale, c'est avant tout une histoire d'amitié et de dernière années de Rétho...
