Esperenza '20th anniversary'

Esperenza ’20th anniversary’

Here is a new part of the Cyborg Jeff anthology. There was 20 years ago, i’ve opened my ears to a new musical universe. I worked on the future album Esperenza that should be finished in early 1998. At that time lot of things have changed in my life. First i left my familly to learn to Louvain La Neuve.

Far from my roots, i met new friends like Didier Rombauts, Damien Bruindonckx, Antoine Reekmans and François Janssen. We created the X-Perimental Association from LLN and share our differents musical epxerience that were new influence on my way of create musics. I was also inspirated by Luc Baiwir live performance and the new Future Music Magasine arrived here in Belgium.

This album was still written with the MS-DOS software : Impulse Tracker running on my brand new PC Cyrix 166mhz with 16 mo of RAM , a new Tascam Porta Studio II and a cheap microphone. pourri.

Finally, the song Esperenza was not included on that album. Composed in january 1998, it was not known by friend Valentin Boigelot that have realised the first original version of this album for my 20th birthday. There was also not on this new re-edition. But you will discover here stereo remastered version of the album including 8 new unreleased tracks.

Divagation : 20th anniversary

It’s time to celebrate the 20 years anniversary of Divagation, the first CD album of Cyborg Jeff.  You should go back to year 1997 ! That years received an incredible influence of big sounds coming from Faithless, Sash!, DJ MD or B.B.E. and for sure this album pick up a lot of mood from that DJs.

I had just 19 years old and in april my best friend Vivien had just received a brand new CD writer for his computer. (Wooow). At that time burning his own CD was something completly new and incredible ! Anyway the 20 selected songs in WAV can’t fit inside a 650mo hard drive, that mean i should have only kept 15 tracks for this first album !

Just remember at that time, i’m creating soundtracker music with Impulse Tracker running under MS-DOS, a software coming from the Amiga scene. Compare to MAO solution from that period, this software will not just only record the note but include samples from the instrument, that mean the .IT file format will be render exactly the same on each compure and will not be dependent from a MIDI Keyboard soundbank.

Anyway, we can’t compare the quality of this album with big DJ productions. It was composed with our brand new Pentium 120mhz with a big 8mo memory. Anyway the computer will not able to manage such kind of memory in MS-DOS, and our audio card will not support Stereo output.

So if this original album was not using Stereo effect, this anniversary version will include all tracks with some stereo enhancement and polish mastering adjustement.

Divagation is not just and only a technical story, but also stories about teenage time with all my friends, girls and school time…

Powerglove

Powerglove : fun inside your C64

Some words about this great adventure i’ve made last autumn. My bros. Pype show me a game currently developped on the C64, a new version of the excellent Pharaoh’s Curse, i loved to play 30 years ago. After some time i had contact Lazycow, the developper to propose music for his game.

goattracker-powerglove-cyborgjeffIn fact, he was working on another game Powerglove, using the same engine for the Commodore 64 ! Wouw, great mission ! For sure musics i’ve made 20 years ago on my commodre was not so kwel then what Chris Huelsbeck, Rob Hubbard et autres Jeroen Tel have made… Should i able to do some SID, the musical standard on the C64 !?

So i’ve worked with Goat Tracker. Black and basic interface but close to what i used during the MS-DOS time with Scream Tracker… I should learn how it works, created subtune and also made my own sound effect.

I finally quickly find how to do good stuff with informations from Matthias Bock. I would like to have an oppressing ambient but also something that the player would like to hear more. That was something incredible at that time on the C64. I remember i loop play to DNA Warrior just to listen to the music !

So i let you discover PowerGlove…
1. download the free image of the game (préférez la version “fix”)
2. if needed let it run on an emulation like CCS64

Crossing back over the scene

Cyborg Jeff - Crossing over the scene - cover - 2003Let’s go back to the early new millenium… At that time, i discovered Internet, and start a new life… That period inspirated me a lot this new album, releasing in september 2001. Still influence from Trance and Chitpune, anyway, at that time, the Neo Disco receive success, and i also would like to touch that style… May be did you also recognize inspiration from Moby, Daddy DJ, The Mackenzie feat. Jessy or Bombfunk Mc’s…

So let’s have an heard of this album, back on the web, realised with Impulse Tracker (MS-DOS) and finalised with the new VST technology in Modplug Tracker !!
